Client Stories | Alyce Wittenstein

“CloudLex was so user-friendly
that my 10-year-old daughter
could handle most of the data
migration from our paper files
into the system.”

“We’ve been able to go completely paperless,” says Alyce Wittenstein.

Alyce Wittenstein

Driven by her love for tech and a desire to boost efficiency in her firm, Alyce Wittenstein chose CloudLex to streamline her law practice and manage her growing caseload.

Alyce Wittenstein’s career didn’t begin in a courtroom but evolved through a passion to combine activism and creativity. At Boston University she studied Film and Political Science, becoming the editor of the BU Exposure and a prodigy of activist Howard Zinn, author of “The People’s History of the United States.” She went on to produce and direct dystopian futuristic films that remain highly relevant and continue to be showcased throughout the World.

So how did she become a lawyer? She was “discovered” by her father, attorney Frederick M. Wittenstein, who was seeking an early retirement in Boca Raton. He had hired and fired several attorneys, who he felt were “idiots or crooks.” He was sitting in the audience at the French Insitute watching Alyce introduce her film in French, wearing a striking red Dior suit. He hired her as a paralegal office manager, and she eventually became an attorney herself, teaming up with Dad.

Triumphs In and Out of the Courtroom

Personal Injury case management made easy! I would recommend it to any personal injury firm!

Wittenstein’s career is filled with cases that highlight her
legal skill, empathy, and dedication to justice. A standout
case involves a young medical student involved in a
catastrophic rollover van accident. The rental car company initially refused to offer a settlement due to implicit bias. However, Wittenstein’s sharp trial preparation and the plaintiff’s convincing testimony turned the case around.

“They perceived her as some kind of a low life. And it was so frustrating because there was nothing to support that attitude they had about her. She was so sophisticated, so well-spoken, so bright,” Wittenstein recalls. “After she testified, they offered to settle the case.”

The turning point

Alyce’s love for tech drove her to find new ways to boost the operational efficiency of the firm. Her early experiences in the IT sector, coupled with her interest in science fiction, gave her a deep understanding of tech.

“I love tech. Before I started working for my dad, I worked in IT. They would just sit me down in front of a computer and i would read the manual and figure it out. Tech comes easily to me.”

In fact, Alyce made early attempts to create her own makeshift case management system. “At one point, I wanted to have a case management system so badly in the office that I figured out a way to use the task function in Outlook as a case management system,” Wittenstein recalls. “I had tried many other case management systems and what I needed in order to customize them was so cumbersome and time-consuming.”

The adoption of CloudLex marked a turning point, and Wittenstein’s firm saw immediate improvements. “CloudLex was so user-friendly that my 10-year-old daughter could handle most of the data migration from our paper files into the system,” she says.

Today, Wittenstein utilizes various features of CloudLex, including Intake Manager and Expense Manager, to streamline the process from initial client intake to the final resolution of cases. “I like to be able to filter for the cases that are ready for settlement. I’ll filter for all the cases that are in suit and then the pre-suit negotiation status for the ones that aren’t in suit. And then I have this nice list of all the cases to call on and try to settle,” she says.

Her appreciation for CloudLex’s capabilities extends to its detailed tracking features. “We use the Expense Manager to track all the expenses for each case. And then we use it to do the breakdowns for the client and for the closing statements,” she explains. This thorough approach
ensures her firm operates with a high degree of transparency and efficiency.

Wittenstein also praises CloudLex’s document management capabilities.

“We just scan everything into CloudLex, and we don’t even print things out. We’ve been able to go completely paperless,” she notes. This shift to digital has revolutionized the way her firm handles documentation, making it easier to manage and access client files.

On the right side of things

Reflecting on her career, she remarks, “I really feel like I’m on the right side of things. I enjoy working on a contingency fee, providing professional services to people that couldn’t otherwise afford it.”

Alyce’s dedication reflects her commitment to justice. By integrating technology like CloudLex, she has not only improved her firm’s efficiency but also ensured that her clients receive the best possible representation as she upholds justice in her community. “
